Review by Francesco Ruggiero, Roman Academy of Fine Arts, on the series “ROME” by Andrey Protasov

Francesco Ruggiero, Academy of Fine Arts of Rome

“The creation by Maestro Protasov of two distinct series of works on the same theme was accompanied by a profound exploration of the history of art and architecture in Rome.

In the series of works dedicated to the city of Rome the viewer is given the opportunity to visit the landmarks of the Eternal City, while the artist blends the past with the dynamic rhythm of the present in a harmonious color palette.

Stupor Mundi by Protasov represents an understanding of the world swiftly embodied in a new hieroglyph, containing the solution to countless mysteries of the past, present, and future.

This multifunctional key opens the door to a staircase leading to the treasures of wisdom that transcends the pull of light and transitions into a new dimension. Protasov discovered this key with complete equanimity.

He blended the visible and the invisible in his colorful and realistic explorations, giving form and metaphorical significance to intangible entities, delving into his own inner multidimensionality, and applying his authorial composition on the edge between the wisdom of plasticity and the enchantment of naturalness. In doing so, he reveals unpublished revelations of Rome, embodying a new understanding of its style. Using a rich, light-filled chromaticism, he magically guides us through majestic landscapes and enchanting images of the sun, with references to the works of Kandinsky and Chagall.”
